RAY ADAMS

Bio: Dr. Adams has worked at Mission University for over 45 years. He served as the Dean of Students during the administration of three MU presidents over the course of 25 years. For the last few years, Dr. Adams has been a full-time faculty member, teaching courses like Life of Christ, Old Testament Survey, History of Western Civilization, Church History, and History of Baptists. Dr. Adams says that it has been his joy to teach thousands of students over his tenure as the longest-serving faculty member in Mission University history, and this may be why he is the first person to teach History classes.

Bio: Vocational ministry leadership has always been of interest to Dr. Bassham, particularly the pieces that make ministry flow and function. Beginning with Pastoral Theology at Mission University in the early 2000’s and continuing into pastoral ministry, Dr. Bassham has had a desire to invest in the men and women entering ministry so that they can be more prepared for what they will face in their ministries. This is why he chooses to be a part of the faculty of Mission U.

Bio: Dr. Christopher Beck is married to his best friend, Dana. Their son Lincoln awaits them in Heaven. Dr. Beck is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Beck. (Dr. Beck’s mother, Marilyn Anita Beck, recently made her journey to Heaven, as well). Upon graduation from Mission University, Dr. Gillming, Sr. Reached out to Beck, inviting him to work with Missouri Moral Majority. Opportunities in this position included hosting a weekly radio broadcast and attending a White House briefing with then-President Ronald Reagan). Beck has also worked with the White House Press Advance Team for various presidential events. Beck’s work at MU began at radio station KWFC. Beck earned his master’s degree at MSU and his Ph.D. from Regent University. Dr. Beck is Academic Chair of Online Education at Mission University, pastor of West Republic Baptist Church, and a Chaplain for the Republic Missouri Police Department. He also serves as BBFI (Baptist Bible Fellowship International) field representative for the countries of Italy, Belgium, Slovakia, Croatia and Ukraine. Dr. Beck uses illusions to share the Gospel. He is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM) and has served as President of Branson’s IBM Ring #325.

Bio: Dana is an adjunct professor at Mission University where she primarily teaches in the Education Department. She is married to Dr. Christopher Beck who also teaches at MU. After their son, Lincoln, passed away, Dana got involved in Good News Club (GNC). GNC is an after-school Bible Club that meets in an area public school. Since 2009, their church has sponsored three clubs where they have been blessed to many young students put their faith in Jesus Christ to be their Savior. While the Becks do not have any living children, their desire is to invest in the lives of the students at GNC and at Mission U.

Bio: Julie was raised in a loving, Christian home and attended church whenever the doors were open. She even attended a Christian school. However, she did not know Jesus as her Lord and Savior until she was in the sixth grade when her mother led her to the Lord. From that point on, she has never doubted her salvation. She is a proud graduate of Baptist Bible College (now Mission U.). She enjoys the personal contact with students and desires to improve and enhance their learning experiences. She says our university impacts the world by developing future Christian leaders and that it is so rewarding to be part of that mission. She says she cannot begin to describe what this school has meant to her over the years and that it is a joy for her to have the privilege of teaching at Mission University. She doesn’t take it lightly. She prays that she will make a difference in students’ lives inside and outside the classroom.

Bio: David has served in some teaching role at Mission University since 2012. He is responsible for teaching all theology classes at Mission U and has a desire to see students see how theology affects their everyday lives. In addition to teaching theology, David serves as the department chair for the Church Ministries: Family Concentration degree. He loves helping students discover how to serve effectively in the local church as a staff member or staff pastor.

Bio: Jessica serves as the head of the Education Department at Mission University. In this position, she says she has the opportunity to continually help improve how we prepare future educators to go out from MU and not only excellent teachers, but also godly influences in the teaching profession. She loves being in the classroom where she can speak into student’s lives as they are trained in the profession of teaching.

Bio: Served on faculty for Christian Schools of Springfield from 1977-1982. Evangelism ministry 1975-1985. Planted a church in Pittsburg, Kansas in 1978. Served at KWFC radio station from 1975-1985. Served with Wal-Mart store management from 1985-1997. Store manager in Carlyle & Salem, Illinois and Houston, Missouri. Owner and general manager for Beth-Eden Bible Camp 2010-2019 (where he grew up). Serving as lead pastor at Maness Memorial Baptist Church in Cabool, Missouri from 2006-Present. Serving in the loan department at Peoples Community Bank in Cabool for 24 years.

Bio: Jeremiah has been married to his wife, Shari, since 1996 and they are blessed with two daughters, Hannah and Naomi. He has served as a missionary representative of the BBFI to the military as a US Army Chaplain since 2005. He is the president and founder of Chappy’s Outdoors non-profit organization ministering to over 1500 wounded veterans. He is the host and producer of the nationwide hunting television show and ministry, Decision Pointe Outdoors.

Bio: Kevin Carson serves as the department chair of biblical counseling at Mission University. He also serves as the Pastor of the Sonrise Baptist Church in Ozark, Missouri. It was his joy to lead a church planting team to all move to Ozark and start this new church in 2002. Since then, the team has changed some, but God has granted him and his family the privilege of serving together at Sonrise. As a pastor, Kevin has served the Baptist Bible Fellowship International (BBFI) as a missions field representative and the Vice President of Education. In addition to his pastoral ministry, he also serves as a counselor at Sonrise Biblical Counseling Ministry, is ACBC Certified, IABC Certified, a council member of the Biblical Counseling Coalition since its inception, author, and is a frequent speaker at conferences, retreats and seminars. Kevin met his wife Kelly here at Mission University. God has blessed them with five children, four who live local and one in heaven. In addition, God has expanded the family with a son-in-law and a grandson.

In addition to his duties at Mission U, Josh has served as Minister of Music & Education at First Baptist Church of Strafford since 2011. He and his wife, Brittany, are the proud parents of Malachi, Lydia, and Josiah.

Bio: Originally from Sarasota, FL, Juan now calls Warner Robins, GA, home. He has been happily married to his high school sweetheart for 11 years, and their shared journey has been a testament to love and partnership. He is a childhood friend of Dean Mulford, and they have always valued deep connections. Juan’s faith has been a cornerstone of his life since he accepted Christ in elementary school, guiding his values and choices. History captivates him, both as a profession and a passion. He finds inspiration in the truth of Sunday School stories and the adventurous spirit of Indiana Jones films. This love for history fuels his curiosity and desire to uncover the past. At home, he shares his life with two beloved dogs, Maggie and Marley, who bring joy and laughter to his days. He is also a sports enthusiast, enjoying both college and professional games, and he loves to travel, seeking new experiences and cultures. Juan says that each journey, whether on the field or across the globe, enriches his life and broadens his perspective, making every moment an opportunity for discovery and growth.

Bio: Dr. Jim Flora graduated from Southwest Baptist University with a Bachelors degree in Chemistry in 2001 and began his career in education that same year. Dr. Flora’s education experience includes teaching at the high school and college level, coaching at the high school and college level, and being a high school principal. He currently is the Head of School of Crossway Christian Academy in Springfield, Mo. Along with his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Dr. Flora holds Master degrees in Science Education and Educational Leadership, a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership.
Dr. Flora enjoys spending time with family and serving God as a member of Crossway Baptist Church. His passion is helping others grown in their faith by impacting their Biblical Worldview through sound Biblical teaching. He desires to help Mission University students grow in their faith to best utilize their gifts to glorify God.

Kyle enjoys having a part in the training of the next generation of pastors, missionaries, Christian leaders, and Biblical counselors as part of the faculty of Mission University.

Bio: Born in Amarillo, Texas, but raised in Chihuahua, Mexico, Bruce is a third-generation minister in the Baptist Bible Fellowship. He served with his family as a missionary in Mexico before becoming the senior pastor of his sending church, CrossPoint Church in Huntington Beach, California in 2005. He holds an M.Div (Missions) and a Doctor of Ministry from Biola University. His dissertation led to the publication of the book, “The Resilient Pastor: How to Remain Effective and Finish Well in Ministry.” Bruce has also volunteered as a police chaplain since 2014 and has a personal and academic interest in how people in challenging vocations can remain effective and resilient for life.

Bio: Brian is a 1994 graduate of Mission University, where he met his wife Mychelle. After earning a master’s degree at Dallas Theological Seminary in 1997, Brian and Mychelle began an internship at First Baptist Church in Vilonia, Arkansas. The Garrisons were approved as BBFI missionaries to Peru in September 2001. They began serving God in Peru in April 2003 and enjoyed a very fruitful ministry for more than 9 years. Serious health issues took Brian and Mychelle off the field in 2012. Brian worked in the Financial Services industry for five years prior to going to work in the BBFI Mission Office in 2017. This has served him well in his position as Finance Director. Brian is also the Director of the World Initiative Network. Being an adjunct faculty member allows for a strong connection between the BBFI Mission Office, and the students and faculty of Mission U. Brian teaches one seated class each semester within the Intercultural Studies department. He also facilitates two online courses for Mission University.

Bio: Dr. Sean Grier is an adjunct faculty member with Mission University. Dr. Grier has been teaching collegiate level courses in a variety of formats since 2010.
Dr. Grier earned his PhD in Criminal Justice from Nova Southeastern University. Additionally, Dr. Grier earned his MS in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati, as well as a MDiv and MA from Liberty Theological Seminary. Dr. Grier completed his undergraduate studies at Liberty University. Dr. Grier’s research interests include biosocial criminology, gun policy issues, and faith-based correctional programming.
Dr. Grier has an extensive professional background, including thirty-two years of professional law enforcement experience. Dr. Grier began his career on active duty with the U.S. Army Military Police and later transitioned to a position as a uniformed Police Officer in the Washington, D.C. area. Dr. Grier then accepted a position as a Special Agent with the Defense Security Service, headquartered out of the Pentagon, where he witnessed the horrific attacks on 9/11. Dr. Grier was employed for over 23 years with the Federal Air Marshal Service in a variety of supervisory roles within the Department of Homeland Security. Dr. Grier retired from federal service in May 2025.

His research interests include biographies of Missouri baseball professionals as well as the political history of western Missouri between 1854 and 1865. Dr. Jerome is also interested in the life of Elihu Root, the former Secretary of War in President Theodore Roosevelt’s administration and a U.S. Senator from New York. Bio: Jon serves as the Director of Library & Academic Services at Mission University, where he has worked in various capacities since 2006. He continued his education at Luther Rice Seminary, earning a master’s degree in ministry; at Louisiana Baptist University, earning a Doctorate in Communications, and at Regent University, earning a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership. He has served the Lord in the local church as a senior pastor for over twenty-five years, giving him a great love for the church and for pastors. Bio: After graduating from high school, Steven joined the United States Air Force. There he met the girl who would become his wife. His fourth and final year was spent in a remote tour of duty in South Korea, and it was there that a missionary in Seoul told him about Mission University. During the summer of his junior year, the Lord burdened him about being an elementary teacher which caused him to switch degree paths. After graduation, he taught for 30 years, reared 4 children (with the help of an awesome wife) and came full circle by becoming part of the faculty dedicated to investing in the lives of those who desire to be school teachers.

Bio: Shannon is married to the love of his life, Tonya, since 1993, and they have three grown children and a grandchild. Shannon graduated from Mission University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pastoral Studies and graduated from Baptist Bible Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts degree in Church Ministry. He is currently in the dissertation stages of the Doctor of Educational Ministry (D.Ed.Min.) program at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served the Lord in the local church for over 20 years. He also worked more than 16 years in the insurance and finance industry, holding both managerial and professional positions within operations at FCCI Insurance Group as well as a position as a licensed financial advisor and insurance agent with Purpose Financial Group/LPL. Shannon has been recognized with multiple business service and academic awards.

Bio: Dr. Rains holds a 31-year teaching career in public education. Before retiring, she spent 29 of those years working with academically gifted students from kindergarten through high school. During that time, she completed her master’s degree in special education, earned the National Board Certification, and completed her Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership. Her desire as an instructor for MU is to help prepare the next generation of education leaders to meet the challenges of today’s educational environment. Bio: Dr. Wesley Scroggins is a Professor of Management at Missouri State University. He teaches courses in human resource management and organizational behavior. He received his Ph.D. in management from New Mexico State University and holds an M.S. degree in industrial-organizational psychology from Missouri State University. Dr. Scroggins also holds an MDiv. degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and is an ordained minister.
Dr. Scroggins is the Executive Director of Abolish Abortion Missouri. He is active in the fight to end abortion in Missouri and works with state legislators on abortion abolition legislation. He also works to educate the church on the issues impacting the culture.
He resides in Billings, MO where he operates a small farm.

Bio: Dr. Slusser was born and reared in Northeast Ohio. He received a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Oklahoma (1991). While working in Ohio, he met his wife, Melissa, and they were married in 1993. It was in 1996 that God ordered Wayne’s steps to attend Seminary, and he surrendered to full-time ministry.
He graduated with his M.Div. in 2001 and was asked to be on faculty at Baptist Bible College & Theological Seminary, Springfield, MO for 14 years (2001-2015). He also received his PhD in New Testament & Greek (2012) and was the co-pastor (2001-2015) of a team church plant, Sonrise Baptist Church (Ozark, MO).
God moved Wayne and his family to Baptist Bible Seminary, Clarks Summit University to teach, coach soccer, and assume the role of Seminary Dean (2015-2024). Since September of 2024, Dr. Slusser has been pastoring Bible Baptist Church (Buffalo, MO) with solid teaching from God’s Word, a heart for the growth of the church, and a desire for the church’s walk to be worthy of the gospel. Dr. Slusser and his wife, Melissa, have two sons (Jack and Nick).

Bio: Todd is a passionate follower of Jesus Christ who has been in ministry for over 25 years. Bio: Dr. Witham facilitates in Mission University’s MBA program online. Due to the dual specialization nature of his Ph.D. in both Financial Management and Criminal Justice, his past areas of research interest have both a business and criminal justice flavor, focusing on the effectiveness of knowledge management initiatives in the proliferation of intelligence-led policing at the local level. His future research will most likely be focused on BioSocial Criminology or the impact of witnessing trauma on first responders. He has also conducted broad research on the nature and response of currency markets to geopolitical events. In addition, he serves as Senior Chaplain with the SW Ohio chapter of the International Fellowship of Chaplains, has achieved his Extra class amateur radio operator’s license, and serves in his church’s new church plant serving and discipling in an up-and-coming community.

Mission University finds its home in Springfield, Missouri, a charming city full of one-of-a-kind attractions, historical treasures, entertaining sports, and a lively culture right on Route 66. Mission U is less than 4 miles from Downtown where one would find unique coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques, and the Springfield famous, Hurt’s Donuts. While in Springfield, don’t forget to catch a Springfield Cardinals game in Hammon’s Stadium or visit the home of Bass Pro Shops! The locals never take for granted picking up a Jackhammer Concrete from Andy’s Frozen Custard located 2 miles down the road from Mission U or spending time at the Farmer’s markets Saturday mornings before trailing to the nearest seasonal festival. With ample coffee shops, hole-in-the-wall cuisine, and shopping selections there is never a dull moment in the home of Mission University.
